Aint about breaking strain because you are not fishing? Its about joining wire under tension
Great video - would like to see it with 2.5 high tensile - I started with Maun, and the regular line up of Fencing Pliers in 1980 - now I have Knipex Small Bolt cutters and end cutters. Knipex 71 31 200 do most of work - they cut so well and fit the hand so well -- The Mauns still come along for the ride, habit I guess. A pair of recently acquired Knipex 61 01 200 High Leverage End Cutters are proving to be very versatile - these could be a video by themselves, so many uses Just ordered Knipex 71 01 250 and 71 31 250 just to see if the longer handle is an advantage. Knipex is now my go to plier for all tasks.
Thanks Tim and very interesting. I'm wondering what to use in a short run of 60 metres. I have been told that straining a short run is harder to do and I should instead use those little rachet devices for each line. What are your thoughts? Many thanks.
There are a number of straining gadgets that are an option for short runs. Most do the job fine but can add to the expense of course
Thanks, Tim. I always learn from your videos
Good morning, Tim, short and packed with info. I had never thought of using medium tensile wire, mainly because when I went to my supplier, they recommended high tensile. Cheers
Ripper of a video mate. Thanks Sam!
Sam’s a bit of a legend

Was talking to one of my neighbours on the weekend who's an old Greek guy that has a few hundred trees about what he does with them as in the last few years I've been here I've never seen anyone pruning or harvesting them. Said he originally planted them for making oil, but that about ten years ago it started costing more than he was making, so turned the water off and just keeps a couple in good knick for pickling. He told me about the egg trick and also that a much faster and more dangerous way is to use lye, but with that they don't taste as good as the salt water way. Definitely keep to have a crack at it next year when they're not overripe like he said they are now.
Olives taste like the cats pissed in the prunes
Thank you for the valuable insight
Thanks heaps - does it work for black as well? How long will they keep for? Do they go mushy? Over time. Great video
Loved this video, such a simple method! Like a lot of GOOD produce the secret ingredient is TIME
Several times. I know he’s trying to gain interest from the Aquaculture industry etc And fair enough - It’s a smart product if it’s as good as he says. However, given his liberal use of various buzzwords I’d go as far to say he’s a bit upset we’re not chowing down on his bugs like they do in other parts of the less developed world. I give him five years max and then he’ll really push for human consumption in his sales pitch 😉 😂
Good to hear an bloke of Mediterranean heritage is not offended by a little word. His ancestors made this country after arriving here after ww2 .Arguably our greatest inport!
6% salt 600 grams per 10 litres after soaking olives for few days in fresh water
Good morning, Tim, I wish my Nona was still with us. They are literally the salt of the earth. Just watching the video at 6am I still wanted to taste the olives. I hope you managed to secure a couple of bottles. I am loving the fact that you are looking at the small farmer/hobbyist who produces a product that is in demand. Cheers
Thanks mate. Kindest regards to your family.
@@FarmLearningTim I am a big fan of your channel, I have tried but failed to get my local rural store to use the channel as a training resource.
im thinking..extend the winder post with lever holes higher than the top of the fence post to wind quicker?!
Hello Mr Thompson. I just stumbled upon your videos and I was wondering if you could answer a question. My husband and I are putting up a wire fence in our front yard. It’s a woven wire, no climb horse fence. We are using square posts with this fence. We want to set the wire on the inside of the posts as this looks better. We cannot figure out for the life of us, how to turn corner’s without wrapping the corner post. This looks terrible so we are looking for a different approach. Do you know if it’s possible to keep the fence on the inside of the posts without wrapping the fence around that corner post? Thanks for your time!
I apologize this question has nothing to do with the video. I was hoping you’re most likely to respond to most recent video.
Haha. No stress. You call the mesh no climb so you must be American. Typically you strain from corner to corner in straight runs. This mesh is likely 13 line so very heavy, most typically you would strain 100m runs at maximum. (I think that’s about 300 feet in imperialist). I assume you are putting the wire on the pressure side of the fence? This is the side where the animal is likely to put pressure. If this means that you are going to try and strain around corners then it would need to be on the outside of the post BUT this kind of mesh(with all the picket wires) does not strain well around corners…. I would avoid that. I recommend straining from corner to corner. Tying off neatly. Fenceline solutions wire clips are the way to go for this. www.fencelinesolutions.com.au/ I hope this helps. Have fun!
Yes I’m American! Ha! Thank you so much for your help!!
Buddy loves to throw the protein card out there. Mate. We’re not eating bugs, or even knocking them back in a protein shake after a sick workout. The end.
Did You literally watch the video?
@@FarmLearningTim repeat after me, 'any engagement is good engagement' 🤣 I used to have a (very) DIY black soldier fly farm set up to self-feed my aquaponics tank and it was a good way to get rid of 'shitty' waste and feed the silver perch at the same time.
If you think about it, there is no waste in nature only a complete cycle. So it's a good idea to look at how to ensure what we do doesn't break the cycle. Conventional farming continually breaks cycles then adds synthetic inputs to overcome the symptoms of those breaks, thereby furthering or shifting the problems down the track without ever eliminating the problem. Soil depletion in tillage systems is a good example. Farming the type of 'livestock', even microscopic in sizes, to allow the cycle to complete unbroken to produce fodder for those animals that are appropriate for us to eat, makes a lot of sense. I won't be "... eating ze bugz" anytime soon. 😂
Spot on comment mate. Spot on.
Thanks
Good morning Tim, another very interesting subject. I bet you had a wonderful time at the trade show, Cheers
It was full on but very interesting.
You can tie down my load anytime, Cowboy!😂😂 Just trolling ya a bit! I’m not even gay! Great information my friend from down under. I have been trying to get this truchies hitch down, but it is frustrating when videos shown people tying it with one hand while holding a beer!😖
I’m just gonna back away slowly and not make eye contact…..
Seems like hell on your back.
Not with the trolly. I’d only use without on short quick jobs.
Exactly the way my uncle have taught me how to use the wire strainer on different types of fences from RSA.
Another great video mate. Can I ask, do I need a 1200 mesh strainer board if Im only ever going to use 900 mesh?
You’ll find that most are that size. I tried a smaller set once that were made for a popular Indian owned brand of wire and they were just a few mm too small for the mesh I was using. Huge frustration. I recommend getting a set just a bit bigger than you think you would need
Thanks. With the tensioners how long can the fence be before you have to do multiple along the fence.
Depends on the wire you are straining and the land you are working on. On flat country running 7 or 8 line mesh or five line barb, one Kilometer strains are not uncommon, on hilly country or straining 13 line horse mesh, 100m might be the most you can achieve.
Just love brilliant technology and gravity always works.
yea . your kiwi mate is 100% correct.... posts and batterns should be at 90deg to the ground/wire on a fence running up/down a hill..... yes im a kiwi ... farmer / fencer. recently had quite a disscussion with another austrailian fencing and fencing equipment supply company ... ...
Hahaha. Yeah….

Wished I found this tip last week, only put in a fence on slope ground, not to mention massive amounts of solid granite, was quite the challenge

Hi Tim great video. Can you please recommend me a crimping tool please, so many out there and no sure what’s right

Good morning, Tim, I have seen this concept recently and it makes absolute sense. I quickly had a look at their web page via the link and it's a fantastic idea they have. Cheers
Who is the factory of this one, Everun?
Always enjoy your videos thanks
Thanks mate much appreciated.
Used Peter’s method about a dozen times - on 6 and 7 wire electric fences using 2.5 high tensile wire. Was sceptical that re-tensioning the brace would be difficult - but have never had to re tension a brace yet. Two brace loops tied off this way is certainly working for me and I do like tight fences. Also recommend Peter’s Stayblocks, however I still use timber posts with. Also as much of the country I have farmed is soft deep soils my preference is for the end post to be 9’ ie. 5’ in the ground and 4’ above.
Love how the Kiwi’s put their posts in perpendicular to the ground angle, it just makes so much sense, particularly with wire spacings as you pointed out. Hope it catches on here 🤩
The advantage of building in any form as plumb, square, or level is that it is easier because it is a global datum and reference. Not only that, but when you were driving the post perpendicular to the hill you have to eyeball it for line, alone with fighting against gravity to keep the post driver in line with the post, and losing the advantage of the driver (imagine doing a long run of posts like that, you'd be stuffed!). Don't lose your mechanical advantage!
Your question is valid, but Bluetti's advancement in tech changes with new technology, EB55 uses the XT60 connector for DC charging, this is a more standard type of connector, less prone to falling out, i also believe it is a higher rated power connection, the EB3A maybe rated at the same solar input but using the old barrel type connectors, it can be frustrating and i hate to say it, but reading the in instructions would have told you what port is for what connection.
I go around 40 metres then down a steep gully for another 30 then flat for 30 to 40 then up steep to moderate for 300 metres or so, on a boundary. does this work for sheep mesh? so far it is just a boundary line no stock on either side. couple of dogs, that is it.
I’d put an end assembly in for each significant change of direction. Strain to each. Minor changes will get taken up by the line wire crimp as long as you don’t overstrain it. Hope that helps mate
Some of my steepest ground is 45 degrees plus on boundry where i have no choice to move the fence , post matching terrain is the only way . Could you do a video on using the post drivers for big timber posts please. I'm interested in buying a tractor style , maybe to put on a small dozer for steep ground. Trouble is no mobs i have asked so far will say if it works on a steep slope. They take for granted you are putting posts in vertical saying if you get the machine there it will do it. When you say driving a post at 45 degrees they all say i don't know buy one and try it ..( either sliding or hydraulic )
Give the team at Thor a call. I’m not sure that anyone will put it in writing that lifting a couple hundred kilos off the ground on a 45 degree slope is a good idea……
@@FarmLearningTim Thanks , I agree 45 deg is probably too much, but no one so far will commit to a max working angle.
